NWS Weather Statement!!

…MODERATE RISK OF SEVERE WEATHER FOR ALL OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE ON SATURDAY… A STRONG UPPER LEVEL STORM SYSTEM WILL MOVE OUT OF THE SOUTHERN PLAINS TODAY AND BRING A CHANCE FOR STRONG THUNDERSTORMS TO THE MID STATE AS EARLY AS LATE TONIGHT. BY EARLY SATURDAY…SOME STORMS COULD BECOME SEVERE…AHEAD OF AN APPROACHING UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE…WITH THE THREAT FOR SEVERE WEATHER CONTINUING THROUGHOUT THE DAY SATURDAY…INTO THE EARLY EVENING. A FEW STORMS WILL HAVE THE CAPABILITY TO PRODUCE LARGE HAIL…DAMAGING WINDS AND ISOLATED TORNADOES. THE SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER HAS PUT THE ENTIRE MID STATE IN A MODERATE RISK FOR SEVERE STORMS. THIS IS THE STRONGEST STORM SYSTEM TO AFFECT MIDDLE TENNESSEE SO FAR THIS SPRING…AND THE POTENTIAL FOR SEVERE WEATHER LOOKS TO BE INCREASINGLY LIKELY…INCLUDING TORNADIC SUPERCELLS. A MODERATE RISK MEANS THAT THERE IS A 45 PERCENT CHANCE OF A SEVERE WEATHER EVENT (DAMAGING WINDS…LARGE HAIL OR TORNADOES) OCCURRING WITHIN 25 MILES OF ANY GIVEN LOCATION. NOW IS THE TIME TO THINK ABOUT WHERE YOU AND YOUR FAMILY WILL GO SHOULD SEVERE WEATHER APPROACH YOUR AREA ON SATURDAY. HERE ARE A FEW TORNADO SAFETY RULES. TORNADO SAFETY RULES

1. IN HOMES OR SMALL BUILDINGS, GO TO THE BASEMENT OR TO AN INTERIOR ROOM, SUCH AS A CLOSET OR BATHROOM, ON THE LOWEST LEVEL. GET UNDER SOMETHING STURDY SUCH AS A HEAVY TABLE OR A BED.
2. IN MOBILE HOMES AND VEHICLES, ABANDON THEM AND GO TO A STURDY STRUCTURE. IF THERE IS NO SUCH STRUCTURE NEARBY, LIE FLAT IN A DITCH, RAVINE, GULLY, CULVERT OR LOW SPOT WITH YOUR ARMS AND HANDS SHIELDING YOUR HEAD.
3. IN LARGE BUILDINGS, SUCH AS SCHOOLS, FACTORIES, HOSPITALS, NURSING HOMES AND SHOPPING CENTERS, GO TO THE PREDESIGNATED SHELTER AREA. INTERIOR HALLWAYS ON THE LOWEST FLOOR ARE USUALLY BEST. STAY AWAY FROM ROOMS THAT ARE LARGE IN AREA BECAUSE THEY HAVE WEAKLY SUPPORTED ROOFS.
4. IN HIGH-RISE BUILDINGS, GO TO AN INTERIOR SMALL ROOM OR HALLWAY.
5. STAY AWAY FROM WINDOWS. DON’T BOTHER OPENING OR CLOSING THEM. IT WON’T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO THE STRUCTURE AND YOU’LL JUST WASTE TIME OR PUT YOURSELF AT RISK SHOULD GLASS BREAK AS YOU ARE NEAR.

Weather Randomness…

Random Special weather statement. My take away… Check on the elderly and pets. Regardless, of the fact that it seems very wrong to group those two together, recent power outages around town make it all the more important to check on older friends and family when it gets really cold. I post this for lack of anything better.

…OLD MAN WINTER GETS A FIRM GRIP ON MIDDLE TENNESSEE… THE COLDEST AIR OF THE SEASON IS NOW COVERING MIDDLE TENNESSEE…AND WILL CONTINUE FOR QUITE A WHILE. RE-ENFORCING BLASTS OF ARCTIC AIR WILL KEEP THE MID STATE IN THE DEEP FREEZE FOR A WHILE. LOW TEMPERATURES FOR THE NEXT 5 TO 6 DAYS WILL BE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS TO MID TEENS…WITH HIGHS ONLY IN THE UPPER 20S TO MID 30S. THIS IS ABOUT 15 TO 20 DEGREES BELOW NORMAL FOR THIS TIME OF YEAR. HERE ARE A FEW SAFETY RULES IF YOU PLAN TO BE OUTSIDE FOR ANY PERIOD OF TIME. …DRESS WARMLY AND STAY DRY…THIS INCLUDES WEARING A HAT…A SCARF OR KNIT MASK TO COVER FACE AND MOUTH…SLEEVES THAT ARE SNUG AT THE WRIST…MITTENS…THEY ARE WARMER THAN GLOVES…WATER-RESISTANT COATS AND BOOTS…AND SEVERAL LAYERS OF LOOSE-FITTING CLOTHING. ALSO…CHECK ON YOUR ELDERLY FRIENDS AND RELATIVES AS WELL AS YOUR PETS…AND BE CAREFUL WITH THE USE OF PORTABLE HEATERS. FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ON COLD WEATHER SAFETY…

And the Thunder Rolls…

Clarksville Storms - From News Channel 5 SkyNet Cam

Clarksville Storms - From News Channel 5 SkyNet Cam

We had some bad storms roll through last night.  I thought I had better post something, since it has been awhile since my last post.  I was afraid some folks might think we had been buried by a tornado.  We weren’t.  We made it though alright.  I was alittle disappointed.  I opened the back door last night to let the hail fly in.  Now, before you say anything, I had a perfectly good reason for inviting the storm in.  I wanted to get a good picture to send into the news.  Well, none of the hail that made it into the house was large or pretty enough to make a picture, so I missed my chance.  Oh well…  There’s always the next storm, I guess.
Now, on the home front.  We are all doing well.  Parker had his first Dentist appointment today.  He did really well.  They said he did great, and was super cute.  He has his moments.  Most of those moments just never happen when he is with me or Kayce.  4 year olds, what can you do, right?
The most important news out of the Susong household, is by far, that fact that I’m getting the new iPhone 3Gs tomorrow!  I will be at AT&T at 7am to pickup my phone!  Not waiting in line, no!  I have pre-ordered, and will walk to the front of any line, and wave my reciept.  My phone was shipped directly from the factory to the store with my name on it.  So, no wondering IF I’m going to get one.  Nope.  It will be a great day.  Also, Kayce gets my current iPhone 3G, so we will be most awesome iPhone lovin’ family ever!  WOO HOO!
Well, that’s all for now.  I’m sure I’ll be posting some pictures and what not from Parker’s dentist appointment, and of my new phone soon.  Keep a look out!
